Rosacea Skin Treatments

By Alistair Nole

Over 45 million people in the world are affected by acne rosacea, which is known as a chronic facial disorder and it can sometimes be progressive. It is characterized by an extremely sensitive skin, permanent redness, bloodshot eyes and swelling. This skin condition was known to only affect people of north-western European descent, and has been nicknamed the curse of the Celts by some Irish folks.

Rosacea can do similar things as melasma, and create darker patches on the face. The marks are more red with rosacea, that is the main distinction. There are other reasons for redness to occur in the face at times. If adrenaline levels are high, this can be a reason. Dilation of arteries happens after people eat spicy food, and this is another reason redness occurs. Redness from rosacea is much more severe than these natural reasons.

Rosacea is not caused by infections such as bacteria, studies have shown and doctors agree. Blushing occurs with some people more than others, and genetic attributes contribute to this. Those who consume alcohol can have redder faces, but when that person has rosacea, it can make it worse. The age of 30 is a common time for rosacea to be diagnosed by a dermatologist.

Rosacea has many outward signs, including bumps and acne, red cheeks, redness and swelling near the nose, and unsightly obvious blood vessels on the face.

Laser treatments are often used to treat many types of skin conditions, including rosacea. A topical solution is often first recommended by dermatologists for those who rosacea affects. There are antibiotic skin creams available that are effective for treating rosacea, and minocin and tetracycline are common ingredients in these. This kind of treatment method can be helpful for mild and more extreme rosacea afflicted patients. Depending on the severity of the situation, a dermatologist could prescribe oral antibiotics when the issue warrants it.

Many people who are afflicted with rosacea use a lot of makeup to try to cover it up. What a lot of people don't know is that it could aggravate the issue by doing that. Use makeup sparingly, and only when absolutely necessary like when you need to attend an important social gathering. Otherwise, stay away from it. Using a mild facial cleaner is a good idea when someone has symptoms from rosacea. If you keep your facial skin clean this will lessen the likelihood that rosacea will spread. It's also a good idea to use only natural cleansers that don't contain strong chemicals and substances. This way, your skin won't be subjected to harmful irritants that will only further damage it.

The symptoms from rosacea can happen to anyone, no matter their background and many find their quality of life is not as good as it was before. The condition can be effectively controlled with therapy tailored to the specific subtype of rosacea that is affecting the patient. In order to lessen the effects of rosacea, using a natural skin product is a wise idea. However, like any medical condition, it's always best to consult the specialists. Patients with rosacea, or other skin conditions such as melasma can benefit from the experience of a well known and respected dermatologist and their expert treatment methods to enrich patient's lives.
